The 9th Annual San Rafael Twilight Relays was held today at San Rafael High School under near ideal conditions. We had 30 teams spanning the entire Bay Area competing in exciting relay races under the lights.

** Both Michael Johnson AND Shannon Rowbury
made special guest appearances to hand out awards. **

  • The Petaluma HS Boys ran an incredible BOYS DMR of 10:24.62 (smashing their old meet record from last year).
  • Erik Olson (JR) of Novato blazed a 4:17 1600m leg to move his team up to 3rd in the DMR.
  • The Petaluma HS girls and boys teamed up for another meet record of 8:59.24 in the Coed 4x800 Meter Relay.
  • There were a slew of fast times in the Sprint Medley Relay races as well (100m-100m-200m-400m).
  • The Gunn ladies ran a stellar DMR of 12:35.12.

Meet Director, 9th Annual San Rafael Twilight Relays


The Twilight Relays is one of the largest sporting events in Marin County, bringing together over 30 Bay Area High Schools and over 500 athletes from Antioch to Sausalito, South Fork to the Peninsula, to run and sprint and race to the finish line in an event that brings together teammates, parents, fans, and businesses. There will be several heats for each relay race with the faster teams running in the latter heats based on pre meet seeding. The top three team times of all of the heats in each relay race will receive special medals, presented throughout the evening.

The Twilight Relays consists of six relay races, run at night, under the lights. The magic of this event is in runners of all calibers competing as a team in unique relay distances at night.

Relay Races:

  • Girls Sprint Medley Relay (100m-100m-200m-400m)
  • Boys Sprint Medley Relay (100m-100m-200m-400m)
  • Girls Distance Medley Relay (1200m-400m-800m-1600m)
  • Boys Distance Medley Relay (1200m-400m-800m-1600m)
  • Coed 4x200 meter Relay (girl-girl-boy-boy)
  • Coed 4x800 meter Relay (girl-girl-boy-boy)

Please note:

  • All races will be seeded based on estimated times.
  • The top THREE team times in each event will receive a medal at the awards ceremony at the end of the meet.
  • There will be Automatic Timing for each race.
  • There will be a concessions stand with food and drink and t-shirts for sale.
  • Entry fee for spectators is $5.00. There is no charge for athletes or coaches.
  • A finalized time schedule will be sent to all coaches after all entries have been received.
